Vargas After-Hours: A Rave Event at UP Vargas Museum

The UP Vargas Museum presents a night of artistic exploration and electrifying performances. Vargas After-Hours (Vargas x Kaput x Monochrome) promises to be an unforgettable experience that combines the best of art and music in one remarkable evening. The rave event is set to take place on September 30, 2023, at the 1/F Galleries of UP Vargas Museum.

A Transformative Use of Space

Vargas After-Hours is part of the UP Vargas Museum's effort to transform its space into a vibrant hub of creativity and culture. Drawing inspiration from civic leader/philanthropist Jorge B. Vargas, the museum aims to continue his legacy of using space for social events and cultural gatherings. Vargas After-Hours is not just a night of entertainment but also a fundraising program for the museum's future projects. It's a chance to support the UP Vargas Museum while enjoying a memorable evening of art and music.

Exploring Rave Culture and Alternative Music

The event will kick off at 5:00 PM with a conversation featuring trans-disciplinary artist Derek Tumala, Filipino contemporary artist Kiko Escora (Manila Animal), DJ Christina Bartges (Badkiss), and Wesley Valenzuela of post-rock shoegaze band Monochrome. The aforementioned artists will discuss the rave culture and alternative music scene in Manila during the 2000s. The talks will be moderated by Vargas Museum Curator Tessa Maria Guazon.

Performance Lineup

Included in the lineup are performances by post-rock band Monochrome and back-to-back DJ sets featuring James Clar, Manila Animal, Badkiss, Kevin Shaw, DQMX and Christal. These talented DJs will bring experimental rock and electronic dance to the event.

Immersive Art Experience

Video works by artist Mikaela Benedicto, model and designer Lukresia aka Thirdworldbb, Jellyfish Kisses, and Jao San Pedro will also be installed at the 1/F Galleries. It's an immersive art experience that adds another layer to the evening's festivities.
